The Gene Hanselman Foundation

About Us

This foundation was established in memory of Gene Hanselman.  After a courageous 5-year battle with cancer, Gene passed away on September 11, 2007. He was a dedicated public servant most of his life, but he managed to show an even greater dedication to his family, coaching countless soccer and basketball teams, and being the loudest cheerleader at all of his children's sporting events. As his children left home for college, he managed to find time for his own long neglected pastime, boating and fishing on Lake Michigan. He spent nearly every summer weekend relaxing on his boat seeking those elusive days of reaching his daily limit of perch. All who met him knew that Gene was the consummate host, rarely sitting until all guests had plenty to eat and drink. The phrase "work hard, play hard" was not merely a motto for Gene, but a manner of living, and it was adopted and continues to be embraced by his children.  This foundation was created to continue working hard on Gene's behalf.  We plan to raise money to be contributed to the American Cancer Society as well as to provide tuition assistance to a young man or woman going in to the Mid Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College.

Please help us to remember Gene with honor and love, and to strengthen the fight against Cancer.
